A flexible water-based acrylic coating for asphalt, tarmac and concrete, used to colour, protect and waterproof hard standing.

It lifts dull, weathered tarmac to an even matt colour and holds it there, with resistance to UV and weathering so the shade resists fading. Use it to mark out parking bays and pedestrian walkways, to colour code hazardous areas, and to lay down court and playground colours. The film flexes with the surface beneath it rather than cracking away from it.

Car parks, driveways, tennis courts and playgrounds take the worst of the British year. Asphalt bleaches out under UV, moves as it warms and cools, and holds damp long after the rain stops — conditions that lift brittle coatings and fade weak pigments within a season. AsphaltCoat is a flexible water-based acrylic that moves with the surface instead of cracking off it, with high pigment loading for hiding power over dark, patchy tarmac and UV resistance that keeps bay lines and hazard colours legible. It goes onto damp surfaces, breathes rather than trapping moisture, and recoats in four hours at 20°C, so bays and walkways are marked out and back in use quickly.

Hydrophobic Vapor Valve

The advanced acrylic lattice acts as a "one-way valve." It blocks rain and surface oils from penetrating downwards but allows trapped ground moisture to escape as vapor—preventing the bubbling and blistering common with standard floor paints.

Optimized Curing Profile

Engineered for efficient application cycles. The coating becomes touch-dry in just 2–4 hours (temperature dependent), preventing debris pickup and allowing for a reliable, streamlined application process on large surface areas.

Flexible Acrylic Film

Tarmac moves under traffic and temperature, and a brittle film cracks off it. The dual acrylic binder cures to a flexible, waterproofing film that stays with the surface in light to medium trafficked areas such as private car parks, driveways, tennis courts, playgrounds and warehouses. Two coats build 120 microns dry over old asphalt, concrete, brick or masonry.

High Pigment Colour Load

The high pigment level gives hiding power over dark, dull asphalt, so parking bays, pedestrian walkways and hazardous areas read clearly in seven RAL shades. The pigments resist UV and weathering, so the colour holds rather than fading. The film dries to a smooth matt to low sheen finish.

Description

EverFlor AsphaltCoat is a single-pack water-based acrylic coating for asphalt, tarmac and concrete. It colours, protects and waterproofs in one operation, laying down a matt, smooth film that stays flexible on surfaces that move and warm through the day. Being a 1K acrylic, there is no mixing, no pot life and no solvent handling to manage on site.

The primary work is tarmac and tennis court surfaces, together with marking out parking bays, pedestrian walkways and hazardous areas. It is also suitable for old asphalt and tarmac, concrete, brick and masonry, so one product can carry a colour scheme across mixed external surfaces. The film is breathable and can be applied to damp surfaces, which shortens the wait after washing down.

Seven colours are available: White (RAL 9003), Mid Blue (RAL 5010), Red Tarmac (RAL 3009), Safety Blue (RAL 5015), Safety Yellow (RAL 1023), Mid Green (RAL 6002) and Black (RAL 9005). The safety shades and white are intended for delineation and hazard identification. Red Tarmac, Mid Green, Mid Blue and Black work as broad court and bay colours. High pigment loading gives the film its hiding power over dark, patchy tarmac.

Supplied ready to use in 5 litre and 20 litre packs, applied by brush, roller or spray, and suitable for interior and exterior use.

Good to know

Apply between 10°C and 25°C, and store the pack at 10°C to 25°C for at least eight hours before use. Two coats are recommended, with recoating after four hours at 20°C, so a two-coat job can usually be finished in one working day. Full cure is reached after 24 hours. The coating is supplied ready to use — do not thin it. Shelf life is 12 months in the unopened container.

Application

SURFACE PREPARATION

The surface must be sound, clean and free of grease, oil and loose material. Remove any weak or flaking existing coating by abrading, and check that the paint left behind is well bonded. Lightly abrade smooth, glossy paint to provide a key. On bare concrete, remove laitance and surface dust before coating. AsphaltCoat can be applied over residual damp remaining after washing down, but not to surfaces holding standing water.

CONDITIONING AND MIXING

Store the container at 10°C to 25°C for at least eight hours before you use it. Stir the pack thoroughly until the colour is uniform. AsphaltCoat is supplied ready to use — do not thin it or add water.

APPLICATION

Apply between 10°C and 25°C, with a minimum surface and air temperature of 10°C. Apply by brush, roller or spray. Cut in bay lines, edges and hazard markings with a brush, then work the body of the area. Work the coating into the texture of the asphalt and avoid heavy build. Coverage is 5.5m² per litre per coat; wet film thickness is 183 µm, giving 60 µm dry per coat and 120 µm over two coats. Apply two coats, recoating after four hours at 20°C.

DRYING AND CLEAN UP

Touch dry is two hours at 20°C and full cure is reached after 24 hours; keep traffic off until then. Clean brushes, rollers and spray lines with water straight after use. Unopened containers have a 12 month shelf life when stored at 10°C to 25°C.

Principal limitations This is a decorative colour finish for sound asphalt. It will not bind, reinforce or fill asphalt that is loose, crumbling or breaking up — repair potholes, cracks and failing patches first with the EverFlor TarmaFix range, then paint. Suitable for asphalt where vehicles park. Not recommended for concrete where vehicles park — plasticised tyres soften a single-pack film on concrete and can pull it away ("hot tyre pick-up"). Use EverFlor AsphaltCoat Ultra, our two-pack solvent-based epoxy, where a floor takes parked vehicles or heavier duty. Apply at the stated coverage rate and no thicker. Asphalt drains through its own texture; flooding that texture with paint can trap standing water on the surface and create a slip risk, and over-thick films lose the flexibility that asphalt's movement demands. Where slip resistance is required, this smooth finish is not the answer on its own — use EverFlor AsphaltCoat - Anti-Slip instead. Do not use in areas that are permanently wet or hold standing water. A water-based film in constant immersion will soften and whiten. Freshly laid asphalt must weather before coating — allow at least four to six weeks so surface binder oils disperse; coating too early causes staining and poor adhesion. The coating does not protect asphalt from fuel and oil spillage. Petrol and diesel attack the asphalt beneath the film; spills should be cleaned off promptly regardless of the coating. Do not apply to mastic asphalt. Its binder content and thermal movement are beyond what a surface coating can accommodate.

Can I paint over old asphalt and tarmac, or does it need a primer?
AsphaltCoat is applied directly to old asphalt and tarmac, as well as concrete, brick and masonry. The surface must be sound and clean, with grease, oil and loose material removed. Where an existing coating is present, abrade off anything weak or loose and key smooth, glossy paint before coating.
How many coats do I need and how long between them?
Two coats are recommended. Recoat after four hours at 20°C, so a two-coat job can normally be completed in a single working day. Two coats give a nominal 60 µm dry film each, 120 µm in total.
How much will one pack cover?
Coverage is 5.5m² per litre per coat, so a 5 litre pack covers around 27m² per coat and a 20 litre pack around 110m² per coat. Open-textured or very porous asphalt will take more, so allow for that when ordering.
Can it be applied to a damp surface, and is it suitable for interior use?
Yes. The coating can be applied to damp surfaces, which is useful after washing down, and the cured film is breathable. It is suitable for both interior and exterior use, with a VOC content below 30 g/l and low odour, so it can be used inside as well as out.
When can traffic go back on the surface, and how slip resistant is it?
Touch dry is two hours at 20°C and full cure is reached after 24 hours; keep traffic off until the coating has fully cured. Tested to EN 13036-4, the finish gives a slip resistance of PTV 45. The product is intended for light to medium trafficked areas such as private car parks, driveways, courts, playgrounds and warehouses.
